Tigran Hamasyan quartet

Tigran Hamasyan is an Armenian pianist and composer widely regarded as one of the most distinctive jazz artists of his generation. His unique sound seamlessly fuses  jazz improvisation and progressive rock with the rich folkloric music of his native Armenia, unconventional time signatures, and a constant interplay between acoustic and electronic expression. A winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition (2006), he has earned praise from piano legends including Herbie Hancock and the late Chick Corea. NPR described his music as combining “jazz, minimalist, electronic, folk and songwriterly elements… heavy grooves, ethereal voices, pristine piano playing and ancient melodies. You’ll hear nothing else like this.”

This spring, he returns to Belgrade for the first time in nearly 15 years, his last visit being the 27th Belgrade Jazz Festival. This time around, he’s stepping into Kolarčeva Zadužbina not as a solo act, but with a full band in tow.
