The Slovenian Flute Orchestra takes the audience on a unique Balkan Road Trip – a concert that combines Slovenian musical heritage with the rhythms and melodies of the entire region.
The program includes works from the Renaissance to contemporary compositions, inspired by the folk melodies of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro.
A special place is occupied by the new composition The Balkan Road Trip by the young Slovenian composer Leon First, in which the energy of Balkan rhythms and contemporary musical expression meet. The audience can also expect an interesting presentation of one of the oldest known instruments in the world – the Neanderthal flute, about 60,000 years old.
The ensemble consists of piccolo, C-, alto and bass flutes, along with piano, double bass and percussion, creating a rich and airy sound that often resembles the sound of an organ.
